Tour suggestion by Philipp Probst

To be honest: I could stay until morning at every company taking part in Industry Night and ask the staff all sorts of questions. And, of course, try everything out for myself. What could be more exciting than taking a peek behind the scenes at successful businesses? How do the BVB and the SBB work, for example? You wouldn’t believe how complex and intricate the machinery behind today’s trains, trams and buses is, and what exciting jobs are out there. At BVB, for example, you can see how CNC milling machines are used in the workshop and how tracks are bent. Or why not take the opportunity to explore the catacombs of Basel SBB station and follow the underground route that goods take to the shops?

And then there’s the logistics of freight transport: so let’s head over to Felix Transport and get a taste of what it’s like to be a long-distance lorry driver. It sends a shiver down my spine. Or shall we go straight to the port? You can get a bird’s-eye view from up above: every hour, Contargo lifts you 20 metres into the air, onto the largest crane in a container terminal in Switzerland. Then, of course, on to Rhenus Port Logistics and Ultra-Brag – the latter lets young and old alike take the controls of an excavator and makes childhood dreams come true. By then, at the very latest, it’s time for a bite to eat; luckily, most companies offer food and drink alongside their extensive programme of events.
