Tour suggestion by Eva Herzog

Industry Night showcases just how diverse the economy in our region is. It’s impressive, but it also leaves you spoilt for choice. Here’s my recommendation for an exciting tour covering the themes of supply, innovation and mobility.
It begins where the regional economy takes on national significance: at the Port of Switzerland in Kleinhüningen and Birsfelden. There, it becomes clear just how vital our region is to the country’s supply chain. Via the Rhine, the railways and modern transhipment hubs, Switzerland is reliably supplied with goods – efficiently, sustainably and as part of an international network. A visit to the Hafenmuseum adds historical context to this perspective and clearly illustrates how infrastructure and the economy have developed hand in hand over the decades.
From there, my tour takes me right into the heart of the life sciences cluster that puts Basel on the global map. Roche, Novartis und Lonza are prime examples of world-class research, innovation and industrial value creation. At the Industry Night, you can see for yourself how research is turned into practical applications – and why a stable regulatory framework is so important for this sector.
Another key focus of my tour is mobility. After visiting SBB, the Basler Verkehrs-Betriebe and the Department of Construction and Transport, one gains an understanding of how public transport, infrastructure planning and sustainable mobility interplay – and that an attractive economic and living environment is only possible with efficient transport networks.
My tour combines the port, industry and mobility. It demonstrates just how closely regional strength, national security of supply and international competitiveness are intertwined. Whether you visit these stops or others – enjoy this overview of our economy. So here’s my top tip: set off early in the evening, as all 50 companies are well worth a visit.
