Tour suggestion by Irene Amstutz

Industrial Night isn’t just about showcasing the world of work; it’s also a cultural event. I enjoy exploring companies or organisations that combine business and culture. This year, my itinerary includes radio culture, maritime history and a place that combines creativity with work integration.
First, I’m taking a look behind the scenes at Radio X. It’s impressive to see how this station broadcasts in the various languages spoken here in Basel. I’m amazed at how radio programmes such as El Papagayo, ArabX and Djoliba are created by and for people from different countries.
As I love the Rhine so much, I make a point of popping into the Port Museum. It’s unique in Switzerland that we have a direct route to the sea here in Basel. At the Port Museum, I learn how vast quantities of coal and grain used to be transported into Switzerland, and how the boatmen’s families lived on the barges between Basel and Rotterdam, taking their whole family along with them.
After that, I’ll rush off to the BSB to have a T-shirt printed. I’m familiar with the BSB, as we in the Swiss Econmic Archives have our historical newspaper clippings collection digitised there. To round off Industry Night, I’ll get creative at the BSB myself. Which design will make it onto my very own Industry Night souvenir T-shirt?
