Anyone interested in local and global supply chains shouldn’t miss this year’s Industry Night. At Swiss Post’s Pratteln Regional Parcel Centre, thousands of parcels and letters are sorted and dispatched every day. At the Industry Night, you can take a look behind the scenes and experience this logistical feat first-hand. In the VR simulation, you can also try your hand at being a delivery driver. Will you manage to deliver the Migros box on time?

Also located in Pratteln is the logistics centre of Planzer Transport, one of the largest and most modern in Switzerland. The company has been transporting goods across the country since 1936. During the Industry Night, you can explore the hustle and bustle of the facility – including its transhipment area, rail loading bay and high-bay warehouse – try out a driver’s daily routine in the VR simulator, and marvel at modern vans alongside impressive vintage vehicles in the exhibition.

On the train journey from Pratteln to Sissach, it’s impossible to miss on the left-hand side: this imposing, blue-painted container building with the yellow ‘IKEA’ lettering. The warehouse in Itingen opened 40 years ago and links this small community in north-western Switzerland with the world’s largest home furnishings brand. In recent years, online retail has grown significantly, with a direct impact on the site: what was once a distribution centre has become a modern customer distribution centre. During the ‘Industrienacht’, you’ll follow the IKEA Trail to trace the journey of a parcel, from efficient, automated processing right through to home delivery.

What counts in the warehouse also applies on the building site: to ensure everything runs smoothly, every move has to be spot on. In Bubendorf, the tozzo group and Welti-Furrer are bringing their large construction machines to the site and giving us a glimpse into the fascinating world of a building site. People of all ages are also invited to try their hand at operating an excavator, dumper or crane. It’s an experience that Michel Krantrans on Lausenerstrasse is also offering: here, you can take a seat in the lorry and put your skills to the test as a crane operator.

Marquis Kanalservice in Füllinsdorf plays a vital role in keeping our infrastructure running smoothly. For over 60 years, this family-run business has ensured that everything flows beneath our streets: sewer cleaning, manhole emptying and the disposal of 30,000 tonnes of road sludge every year are all part of their daily routine. At the Industry Night, you’ll go on a tour to discover the world of waste management, learn about the varied role of a drainage technician and put your skills to the test at three hands-on stations.
