About IKEA
IKEA opened its first store in Switzerland 50 years ago. Switzerland was the first country outside Scandinavia to be allowed to offer IKEA furniture. IKEA now operates stores in 54 different countries.
The warehouse in Itingen was opened over 30 years ago. It is IKEA's oldest semi-automatic high-bay warehouse in the world. In recent years, customer requirements have changed considerably - with an impact on the warehouse in Itingen. Much has been modernised and automation expanded. A traditional distribution centre has been transformed into a proper central customer warehouse in order to meet the needs of the many people. Because the IKEA vision remains at the centre: to offer people a more pleasant everyday life with furniture at affordable prices.
