About the Bau- und Verkehrsdepartement
From tree-lined avenues to playgrounds, from shared spaces to tram networks, from buvettes to new city districts – the Bau- und Verkehrsdepartement (Department of Construction and Transport) manages urban development in the canton, promotes safe and innovative transport, and works to ensure that people enjoy spending time in public spaces. The department maintains green spaces, contributes to a good urban climate, and maintains public spaces and canton infrastructure. It also issues building and operating permits for restaurants, safeguards rights listed in the land register, and provides geoinformation. Through these efforts, its nearly 1,200 employees ensure that the canton is a great place to live.
