A Colourful Programme for Children

Industry Night has something for everyone, young and old alike. Some of the activities are specifically aimed at families with children. Here’s an overview.

In Arlesheim, there are no limits to the imagination: at the Alti Papieri site, children can design their own playground model, tinker with cordless screwdrivers and angle grinders, or use screen printing to create cool designs on their own socks and T-shirts. At Walzwerk, children can build wooden artworks and freely paint large-scale pictures based on the theme of ‘animal sounds’.

The Industry Night also has an exciting programme in store for children who love technology: at Etavis Kriegel+Schaffner, they can build their own electric switch with a lamp or let off steam on the ‘electric bike’ – here, energy becomes a tangible experience. At Jetz, children can solder their own personal torch, whilst parents can find out about the Youth Technology Lab’s course programme. At Stücki Park, children assemble their own solar fan and learn in a playful way how solar energy can be used. The whole family can take part in the Wind Power Challenge to find out who generates the most energy. And the Hot Wire skill test reveals who in the family has the steadiest hand and can complete the course without making a mistake.

The worlds of science are particularly spectacular for young explorers: at the Rothen Laboratory, children discover the world of sample analysis through play. At the Novartis site in Klybeck, they watch the life sciences supply chains unfold with wide-eyed wonder. At the Swiss Nanoscience Institute, children carry out exciting experiments from the world of nanotechnology – from the lotus effect and glittering chocolate to nanofabrication. Anyone who enjoys games will be in their element at the Swiss Economic Archives: they can piece together puzzles using old archive materials, such as the legendary Eptinger giraffe.

At the Dreispitz during Industry Night, a variety of senses are engaged, making it an ideal programme for children: at eyewear manufacturer Optiswiss, seeing becomes a game. In the studios of Radio X, we experience and hear how a radio station operates and how a radio programme is created. At Offcut’s upcycling workshop, the sense of touch is put to the test: children design stamps from erasers and print their own patterns on paper. At Sutter Begg, children learn the basics of a delicious craft. In the specialist shop of Götschi, they explore the wondrous world of tools in a safe environment.

Children know them as toys: diggers, boats and fire engines. At the Industry Night, these popular vehicles will be on display in full size: at Birsfelden Harbour, children can climb aboard the FÜRIO fireboat, marvel at the professional fire brigade’s impressive emergency vehicle and explore an event truck. At Ultra-Brag in Kleinhüningen Harbour, there is an excavator ready for children to use to dig in the sand. And for those who prefer a quieter experience, there is a children’s corner with colouring activities in both harbours.

Children can also explore virtual worlds at the Industry Night: at Selmoni, they can become ice hockey pros and shoot the puck into the virtual goal, or put on VR headsets and put the pedal to the metal in VR racing.

Industry Night offers an evening full of eye-opening experiences for the whole family, and you’ll pick up lots of new information about the diverse working environments in our region along the way.
