On 19 April 2024 from 5 pm to midnight the second Industry Night Regio Basel will take place. For one night, 52 workplaces from a wide range of industries offer exciting insights into their work, culture and history – from Basel to Reinach and Allschwil to Muttenz. Whether it's a tour through a bakery and a security operations centre, a workshop in the laboratory and carpentry company or inspiring conversations with experts on site: the multifaceted programme covers around 200 programme items and has something exciting in store for everyone.

Discovery tour of Basel's working world: 52 locations, 200 programme items
The economic region of Basel is diverse and dynamic. Numerous innovative start-ups, SMEs and large companies are based here. The Industry Night offers the opportunity to take a look behind the scenes of these small and large working worlds. 52 companies open their doors to the general public. They take us on tours, invite us to fun workshops and answer questions that have perhaps been on the tip of our tongues for a long time. Around half of the programme items are interactive, and many are also language-independent or offered in foreign languages.

A region with global appeal: Life Sciences and the MEM industry
Basel is a global nexus of life sciences. Around 800 companies and over 30,000 individuals work in this sector in the region, and two of the world's five leading pharmaceutical companies are headquartered in Basel. Medicines are developed, surgical procedures are tested and implants are manufactured here. At the Industry Night, the region's leading industry can be explored in all its diversity: in the laboratories of Bayer, Medartis, Novartis, Roche, Straumann, but also at the suppliers of important equipment, for example at SKAN (isolators for the production of vaccines) or Willy A. Bachofen (shaker mixers). The region also has a remarkable reputation in the development of highly specialised machines. Technologies and devices are developed here that are used worldwide. We unknowingly encounter many of them in our everyday lives, such as the water-saving flow regulators from Neoperl or the measuring devices from Endress+Hauser, without which our cough syrup would not be effective. At the Industry Night, the two Reinach-based companies will present their working world and invite visitors to engage in dialogue.

"With our measurement technology, we make everyday life more pleasant – and our world more sustainable. We are looking forward to providing visitors to the 2024 Industry Night with an insight into our work. That's why Endress+Hauser – like many other companies from the region – is once again participating with exciting programme items and happy to support the event as a sponsor."

A region in flow: Infrastructure, Mobility and Circular Economy
In our everyday lives, we rely on a complex infrastructure and the smooth circulation of goods. This is ensured by numerous companies and specialists in the background. Many of them will be giving exclusive insights into their work at the Industry Night – for example in drinking water treatment (IWB), the programming of traffic lights (BVD), the revision of the trams (BVB) or the architectural subtleties of the exhibition centre. Our infrastructure is also highly networked and electrified. Electrical and building services engineering is one of the professions of the future. Companies such as Actemium, Axians, ETAVIS, QuantumBasel, Selmoni, Siemens and Tschantré are creating new smart and secure infrastructures, advancing the digital transformation and actively participating in the energy revolution. At the Industry Night, they will take us on a journey into the smart city of tomorrow.

Basel is also an important transportation hub on the north/south axis. Over four million tonnes of goods are handled here each year. Logistics and transport companies such as Ultra-Brag, Contargo and Felix Transport play a major role in this. On the Industry Night, visitors can explore container terminals, climb gantry cranes, steer excavators and follow consignments until they are loaded onto a lorry. Many goods are imported and exported, others are recycled here. On the Industry Night, visitors can also immerse themselves in the circular economy of our region and experience how household waste is recycled (Lottner), sustainable concrete is produced (KIBAG), gravel is processed (habö) and residual materials are upgraded and fed back into the cycle (OFFCUT).

The shape of the region will continue to change in the future. In the course of deindustrialisation, former industrial sites, marshalling yards and bonded warehouses have become vacant and can now be used for new purposes. At the Industry Night, some of these conversion projects will provide an insight into their visions (Dreispitz, Franck Areal, Stücki Park, Gundeldinger Feld, uptownBasel). Meanwhile, the Swiss Economic Archives offer a window into the past with torch tours of the archive.

A region with taste: Food, Crafts and Education
Delicious pizzas, delicate sourdough bread, fine Leckerly, fresh craft beer and soothing herbal sugar sweets – at the Industry Night, you are also offered a look behind the scenes of local food producers. Sutter Begg, Bäckerei KULT, Birtel, Jakob's Basler Leckerly, Ricola (with a stand on the Messeplatz) and VITO invite visitors into their bakery, brewery and biscuit factory. Visitors can also try their hand at braiding braids, designing their own pizza or pastry-making in the apprentice workshop.

Many craft businesses in the region also work with great skill, care and an eye for aesthetics. Tschudin and Voellmy are masters in working with wood. On their tours, we experience how the wood arrives in the carpenter’s workshop as a raw material and how, step by step, it is transformed into beautiful objects. There is even more regional craftsmanship to explore on the Industry Night at the Birkhäuser+GBC printing works, in the Regent Lighting laboratory, at tool specialist Götschi and in the KMU Reinach tent village. Good taste is learnt like other skills: various educational institutions also present themselves at the Industry Night. You can find out more about the wide range of training and further education opportunities in the region in a fun way at aprentas, the FHNW in Muttenz, the Business Parc and the JETZ Youth Technology Lab.

"As the main sponsor, the Industry Night is a wonderful opportunity for us to put the spotlight on the versatility of our business location. What happens here in our region in terms of innovation usually happens quietly. On 19 April, however, the public will have the opportunity to experience the achievements of our companies first hand. Visitors can immerse themselves in our economy with all their senses, and in many places even take part themselves. In particular, children and young people – the skilled workers of tomorrow – can gain a first impression of the various professions at a low threshold.
Martin Dätwyler, Director of the Basel Chamber of Commerce and Industry

Plan your personal discovery tour: Website and programme booklet
The website allows users to filter and compile programme items by interest, language and format. The list of favourites can be shared with friends and printed out at home. As of this year, the entire website is also available in English. The programme booklet comes in a handy size that visitors can easily carry along. It provides an overview of the shuttle lines, contains brief descriptions of the companies' programmes and the most important information on ticket sales. The programme booklet is available at the presale offices, the Kulturbox spots, all participating companies, and at the box offices.

"What could the medicine of the future look like? How do diseases develop? We would like to explore questions like these interactively together with visitors to the second Industry Night Regio Basel. Immerse yourself in the exciting world of medicine and join us on our journey to rethink medicine in order to improve and prolong people's lives. We look forward to welcoming young and old to Novartis."
