We asked various personalities from the region which companies they will be visiting on Industry Night. The eighth and last tour suggestion comes from Mathias F. Böhm, Managing Director of StadtKonzeptBasel.

My personal discovery tour

The first stop on our tour across Basel's diverse industrial landscape is at the Birtel Biermanufaktur on the Dreispitz site. On the tour through the microbrewery, the master brewers let us look over their shoulders. They use their own hops and malting barley in production and therefore attach great importance to sustainability and regionality.

VITO also started out small, namely in the Markthalle, and has since grown into a remarkable player in the gastronomy and catering scene with four restaurants in Basel and two in Zurich. The employees give an insight into the world of pizza baking and talk about the philosophy that VITO embodies and has led to its success: pizza for everyone – because the combination of food and community creates connections between people, no matter where they come from.

Let's move on to a long-standing partner of StadtKonzeptBasel: Birkhäuser+GBC AG in Reinach. Our BaselLive magazines and LoveYourCity magazines, which are packed with love for the city, are all printed in the region. Holding a high-quality print product in your hands offers a completely different, more emotional experience than a digital media format. On the tour of Birkhäuser+GBC's production facilities, we learn how printing technology is combined with the digital world.

We continue our discovery tour at OFFCUT's materials market. Used and residual materials that would otherwise end up as waste are collected here. At OFFCUT, they are sorted and returned to industry as reusable materials. This is where the circular economy is practised, and the life of products is extended. Raising awareness of the careful use of resources, as demonstrated by OFFCUT on Industry Night, inspires a more sustainable lifestyle and is a huge asset to today's society.

To round off our tour, we visit the Gundeldinger Feld. The former site of the Sulzer Burckhardt AG machine factory is home to an incredible variety of offices, workshops, leisure and cultural activities. On the Industry Night, we have the chance to get to know this flagship conversion project, which is now home to over 70 tenants and has become an important neighbourhood centre in the Gundeli district. The perfect place to round off the evening – for example in the fine restaurant and bar at WERK 8.
