From natural cosmetics to fibreglass, from cable car to croissants

Following two successful events, the third Industry Night Regio Basel is set to take place on 9 May 2025. From 5pm to midnight, 48 companies will open their doors, offering a rare behind-the-scenes look at their operations. Visitors can explore industrial facilities, data centres, and research labs on guided tours, roll up their sleeves in hands-on workshops, and chat with industry experts. With over 180 activities on offer, the diverse programme promises fascinating insights and unforgettable experiences.
How are cyber attacks combated? Which plant substances are in the day cream? How are medicines developed? Industry Night promises answers to questions like these. For one night, visitors can take a look behind the scenes of our economic region. Basel is an important life sciences cluster, a national hub for goods and a centre for innovation in the ICT and MEM industries. Numerous start-ups, SMEs and large companies of global importance research, develop and produce here. On 9 May, 48 companies will be offering over 180 programme items, from tours and workshops to informal discussions about career opportunities. Almost half of the programme items are interactive, and many are also language-independent or offered in English and French.
The infrastructure in our everyday lives
Our everyday life is based on a highly complex infrastructure. At Industry Night, visitors can experience how it is built, maintained and optimised. At the Kleinhüningen depot, IWB offers an insight into the supply network under the ground, Agreta into the sophisticated production of pipe systems. The electrical engineers from Selmoni and ETAVIS will demonstrate how electricity circulates reliably in our buildings. The impressive world of telecommunications with internet, mobile and TV is explained at Swisscom, the complex world of the circulation of goods and people at Ultra-Brag at the harbour and in the SBB service facility. Visitors can gain spectacular insights into IT infrastructures at the uptownBasel site – with robotics, a security operations centre and a quantum computer. Meanwhile, recycling specialist Lottner impressively demonstrates how important cycles are for a functioning everyday life.
Life sciences, the region's leading industry
Basel is a world-famous life sciences hub. At Industry Night, visitors can immerse themselves in this sector and experience how diseases are researched, therapies developed and implants produced here in the region. Roche offers an insight into the research centre in Basel and presents the entire value chain through to the production of medicines on a guided tour. Medartis shows how bone fractures are fixed with implants, Straumann takes us into the modern world of dentistry. And at Weleda in Arlesheim, an exclusive tour of the production of their natural cosmetics and medicines awaits us.
“At Roche, we are passionate about improving the health and lives of patients. The Industry Night is a great opportunity for us to give a glimpse behind the scenes of our work and our company. We look forward to welcoming many people to our Basel site again and sharing our passion for innovation.”
– Nicole Tschanz, Head Site Reputation, Roche Basel / Kaiseraugst

Craftsmanship from the region
Various crafts can be marvelled and experienced first-hand at the Industry Night. At Kukuk, visitors can design their own playground model and build with acacia wood, at ‘Die Bürste’ they can wrap their own handmade broom and at the Weizenkorn Foundation they can make colourful candles. The Theater Basel takes visitors on a tour of its workshops, where artistic stage sets and costumes are created. Volta Bräu and Birtel Biermanufaktur will introduce you to the art of brewing beer, vinigma gives you insights into the art of winemaking. In addition to beer and wine cellars, regional bakeries will also be opening their doors at Industry Night. At Sutter Begg and the KULT bakery, visitors can explore everyday life in a bakery and try their hand at baking and confectionery. Ricola as well offers an insight into a craft with a long tradition. At Messeplatz, the company will be demonstrating how its herbal sugar is produced according to the original recipe – including a tasting session.
“In the bakery, we don't just bake bread, we also live emotions and passion with great commitment. At Industry Night, we offer an experience for all the senses.”
– Katharina Barmettler-Sutter, CEO Sutter Begg
Developed locally, distributed worldwide
Highly specialised products and technologies are developed in the Basel region that are used worldwide. Endress+Hauser measuring instruments, for example, are sold in over 120 countries. In our everyday lives, we constantly come into contact with measurement technology from Endress+Hauser: it makes milk last longer, cough syrup effective, and alerts the fire department in good time before a flood is imminent. Visitors at the Industry Night can expect an exclusive insight into production. Neoperl also supplies its products all over the world. Their spray regulators are small parts with a big impact – they save water, energy and therefore money. We learn more about the technology behind them on site. Alfred Imhof's drive technology is also in demand worldwide: at London's Gatwick Airport, at industrial beverage bottlers from Peru to Austria, in the mountain regions of the Alps. At Industry Night, the company will be demonstrating how it keeps Ferris wheels, cable cars, and all kinds of conveyor belts moving.
“The Industry Night gives us the chance to make visible what would otherwise remain hidden. Our products can be found in taps and shower heads: barely visible, but effective. Visitors can experience how our products save water and energy and therefore save money – and how every bathroom can be easily retrofitted with them.”
– Reto Bauer, Sales Manager Specialised Trade and Member of the Executive Board Neoperl AG
“Be it secure jobs, interesting apprenticeships or the high innovative strength of our companies: The entire region benefits from a strong economy. As the main sponsor of the Industry Night, we make this visible. Don't miss this showcase of achievements and discover the diverse sectors, services and working worlds of the regional economy.”
– Andreas Meier, Deputy Director of the Basel Chamber of Commerce
