A journey into the life sciences
The southern outskirts of Bubendorf have undergone a dramatic transformation over the past few decades. Where there were once meadows, there is now a thriving life sciences cluster with a global reach. This chapter began in 1977, when Bachem – then just six years old and with a staff of eight – moved there. Since then, Bachem has been a real job creator in the region; today, 2,000 people work at its headquarters in Bubendorf.
At the Industry Night, you’ll see how Bachem produces active ingredients – known as peptides and oligonucleotides – on a large scale. The ‘Wonder World Laboratory’ invites children to carry out their own experiments. Meanwhile, adults can practise cleanroom procedures – in a practical setting with tips from experts. The Industry Night is the ideal opportunity to find out more about career paths and vacancies at Bachem in a relaxed setting.

Not far from Bachem is CARBOGEN AMCIS, another company that develops, manufactures and markets active ingredients. You can experience this day-to-day work first-hand at the Industry Night: on a discovery tour through the laboratories, you’ll find out what’s bubbling away in the flasks. At ‘Hands-on Science Fun’, you’ll awaken your inner scientist, and at the ‘Meet & Greet’, you’ll get to know the people behind the company. CARBOGEN AMCIS will also introduce you to the careers and apprenticeship opportunities available in this sector. CIS Biopharma is also based in Bubendorf. This young biotechnology company is active in cancer research and develops new therapies. At the Industry Night, you’ll gain insights into the research process and carry out small projects yourself in the ‘Lab Experiment’.
A key partner for life sciences companies is the INRA Group in Pratteln, which is opening its doors for the first time at this year’s Industry Night. The company specialises in plant and pipework construction and manufactures, amongst other things, chemical and pharmaceutical plants. At the Industry Night, you’ll get to be an engineer: you’ll learn technical drawing through computer-aided design with SolidWorks, shape pipework to the desired form on the bending machine, and, during an introduction to endoscopy, you’ll be able to inspect pipes and systems from the inside yourself.
