Following three successful events, the fourth Industry Night Regio Basel is set to take place on 24 April 2026. From 5pm to midnight, 50 companies will open their doors and invite visitors on a unique behind-the-scenes tour: on offer are spectacular guided tours of laboratories, underground passages and production halls, hands-on workshops and plenty of opportunities to chat with staff. With over 230 activities, the Industry Night has something exciting in store for everyone, young and old alike.

Understanding diseases, climbing Switzerland’s tallest container crane, brewing your own beer: at Industry Night, you can experience the full diversity of our region’s working worlds. We can delve into the life sciences, discover Basel as a hub for European freight transport, try our hand at various trades and explore areas undergoing transformation. The fourth edition of the Industry Night Regio Basel is the most extensive yet, featuring over 230 programme items.

Basel as a transport hub

More than 125,000 containers are handled annually at the Port of Switzerland. At Industry Night, over ten port companies allow a glimpse into this vast world of logistics. In Klein- hüningen, Contargo, Rhenus Port Logistics, Swissterminal and Ultra-Brag offer insights into their container terminals and silos. At the Port of Birsfelden, Delica takes us on a tour of Switzerland’s second-largest coffee roasting plant, and visitors can also view impressive locomotives and a fireboat. At Felix Transport, visitors can take a seat in a modern electric lorry; at BVB, they can look over the shoulders of the track layers; and at Basel SBB station, they can explore the underground logistics centre. Vintage car enthusiasts may marvel at the spectacular ‘Red Arrow’.

“The Port of Switzerland is opening its doors for the Industry Night, offering visitors the chance to experience the diversity of the working world at the port. In Basel-Kleinhüningen and Birsfelden, companies are showcasing professions, innovation and logistics processes up close – from simulators to the port railway. The aim is to spark enthusiasm for the sector and provide insights into an often hidden but vital economic artery.”
– Florian Röthlingshöfer, Director of the Port of Switzerland

Basel as a world-famous life sciences cluster

The life sciences are the region’s key driver of growth. Around 800 companies operate in this sector. At the Industry Night, Novartis will open its Klybeck site for the first time, where research is conducted and active pharmaceutical ingredients are produced. Roche will offer interactive insights into the development of new medicines and personalised therapies. Exclusive tours of laboratories also await at ten23 health, Lonza and Labor Rothen. Bayer Switzerland is dedicating an exhibition to the myths surrounding the menopause and men’s health. At Stücki Park near Medartis, visitors can follow, step by step, the production of implants used to surgically fix broken bones.

“The Industry Night offers a unique glimpse behind the scenes at Stücki Park. From laboratories and innovation hubs to cutting-edge research and hands-on experiences. Medartis, Schachenmann, Artidis, Superlab and Lonza are opening their doors to show what they work on every day. Visitors can also immerse themselves in virtual worlds, take part in VR-City or join our exclusive Behind-the-Scenes of Stücki Park tour. Such diversity can only be experienced once a year.”

Basel and its state-of-the-art infrastructure

In our everyday lives, the supply of water, energy and the internet are taken for granted. Behind this, however, lies a complex infrastructure, which becomes clearly understandable during the Industry Night. At the IWB depot, we learn how energy, data and water reach our homes via pipes beneath the ground. Swisscom offers a tour of its data centre, where they ensure we can make phone calls, use the internet and, in an emergency, fall back on alternative communication solutions. At Selmoni and Etavis Kriegel+Schaffner, the world of electrical and building services engineering comes to life – whether with a soldering iron in hand or VR glasses on your nose. And Lottner, Waser Entsorgung and Offcut demonstrate how waste materials are returned to the cycle.

“The Industry Night is a fantastic opportunity for us to engage directly with the public. This dialogue is incredibly valuable: we hear what matters to people, answer their questions and bring our work to life – encounters like these are absolutely central to what we do.”
– Claus Schmidt, CEO of IWB

Basel and its wide variety of craft businesses

At the Industry Night, visitors can marvel at a variety of craft skills – and try their hand at them: those interested can brew their own beer at Volta Bräu, knead dough at Sutter Begg, sample gin at the rolling mill, or follow the grape processing journey in vinigma’s wine cellar. Together, visitors can solder torches, saw wood for birdhouses, print T-shirts, have their eyes tested, build playgrounds, film promotional clips and splice optical fibres. You can also easily find out about career opportunities from staff members. For young people, the Industry Night is a great opportunity to experience different professions and discover their own interests.

“At the Industry Night, visitors get a first-hand look at how research, development, production and design take place in our region. As the main sponsor, we are delighted to showcase this diversity – and to demonstrate how our companies contribute to the region’s high quality of life through innovative ideas, forward-looking apprenticeships and a strong commitment.”
– Andreas Meier, Deputy Director of the Basel Chamber of Commerce

Premieres at the Industry Night

Fifteen companies are taking part in the Industry Night for the very first time. Among other things, visitors will now be able to gain insights into cutting-edge research (Swiss Nano- science Institute, Department of Physics), a key organisation for integration in the region (Bürgerspital Basel) and Switzerland’s largest manufacturer of spectacle lenses (Optiswiss).

“The Industry Night offers exclusive insights into a wide variety of working worlds. It is a unique opportunity to find out about vocational training and career prospects, and to learn more about the value creation and innovations of small and large companies in our vibrant region. The event creates a space for experiencing a wide range of professions in a fun way and for many exciting encounters. I am very much looking forward to it.”
