Living and working in the digital world

Our everyday lives are highly digitalised, we store data in clouds, are surrounded by smart buildings and communicate online. Digitalisation holds great potential, especially for our working environments. This potential is almost tangible at the uptownBasel site in Arlesheim. An international centre for Industry 4.0, the digital transformation of industry through the networking of people, machines and products along the entire value chain, is being built here on 70,000 m2. At Industry Night, you can immerse yourself in the innovations that the companies on this site have in store for the future.

Actemium automates industrial processes, and one of its specialisms is robotics. Observe robots in action at Industry Night, help programme them and ask your questions. Meanwhile, you can immerse yourself in a Security Operations Centre, or SOC for short, at Axians. In the SOC, IT specialists expose and combat cybercrime. On the tour, you will also learn more about the threats posed by the darknet, why it is not being shut down and how the experts monitor it. Do you see yourself in one of these SOCs in the future? Find out about exciting careers in the IT sector at Axians. QuantumBasel offers insights into the fascinating world of quantum computers. Quantum technology is revolutionising the way we calculate, communicate and process data. Quantum computers differ fundamentally from classical computers, which work with bits (state 0 or 1). Quantum computers use so-called qubits, which can be in several states at the same time - allowing highly complex calculations to be carried out in a fraction of the time that classical computers would need. You can go into more detail with the experts on site.

Stücki Park in Kleinhüningen, on the northern edge of the city of Basel, also offers an ideal environment for innovation. The open campus offers space for research, technology and companies. At Industry Night, the companies in Stücki Park give you unique insights into the world of electrical engineering and life sciences. Digitalisation also plays a central role here: experience how a smart home makes everyday life more convenient, safer and more energy-efficient, or how AI can be used to make reliable diagnoses. You are also challenged: Take part in the wind power challenge, build your own solar fan and take the hot wire dexterity test. Technical skills are also required at the JETZ Youth Technology Lab. The organisation offers courses for young people in the fields of electronics, technology and IT. In the South Foyer, it invites you to take part in soldering and programming. The programme is particularly suitable for families with children.

Oslo Studios produces first-class content for film, music and advertising on the Dreispitz. The young company is the only studio in Switzerland that is officially certified by Dolby for mixing cinema material. At Industry night, you can immerse yourself in the world of film and media production and experience how audio and video are turned into a complete work of art in state-of-the-art studios. The live green screen offers a special experience: Become part of a film production and feel how visual effects are created. In the immediate vicinity is the studio of Radio X, Basel's youth and culture station, which serves around 40,000 people in the region every day with a varied programme. Radio X opens its doors at Industry night: there are studio tours and live radio to dance to. On the programme: the live show Xplorer with the highlights for the weekend, the legendary hip-hop show Xplicit Content and the Radio X classic Density.
